Talk with Ollie Allgrove

Ollie came into our college to give a presentation on what he does in the business and some hints and tips to use when making our music videos.

Ollie is an executive producer for the company "Passion Pictures"; a small independent production company thats renown for its animation and commercial output. For example, Comparethemarket.com campaign, Cartoon Network and the Gorillaz music videos were all produced by them. Passion pictures is a multi award winning company, who have received many Oscars.

Ollie's personal background involves being a runner, low-budget films, feature films, music videos, nature documentaries and TV commercials.

''Story telling is the heart of what any film making is

about''

Talent refers to: The Directors, Producers, The Artists and (VFX) Visual effects artists.
The director needs to be able to communicate with people.

Pop is now more relevant than ever! ... or is it a dead way to sell defunct format?
The Record label set the budget.

Sponsership is key and can help to build a bigger budget.

What does the artist want/need:

Hits (views)
Controversy
Noise
Impact
COLLABORATION: Is where the artist and director share ideas.

Treatment: A creative idea - you need to hook the audience.

The Shoot:

There should be no questions when it comes to the shoot day, everyone should know what is happening and what they are doing.

The Edit:

This is the most important place to finish the narrative! Everything must be done and not left to be fixed in post production.

Lastly Ollie suggested that the best thing to do was to build a relationship between the artist and yourself, so there is trust and the artist is comfortable.
