This was my group and myself's second presentation with the changes made from the feed back we were given from our first presentation.
GREAT NEWS... They liked the idea and were pleased with the developments that we have made.
FEEDBACK
The water is not worth the hassle for only 2 shots. - We agreed with this feed back so we are going to cut the water out. As much as we liked it, it is not possible.
We may need to make the artist separate to the girl in the room. - We have decided to make the artist mysterious in the beginning of the video, however at the end show that the girl and the artist are actually together.
It is a way for institutions and academics to be able to build up details accounts of how audiences are constructed. It is common practise to find ways of segmenting the audience; which can be achieved both demographically and psychographically.
DEMOGRAPHIC SEGMENTATION
This is where an audience is segmented according to various significant social criteria. e.g. Gender, Class, Race, Sexuality. The most common demographic approach to the audience involves the JICNARS scale:
A - Higher Management/administration/professional
B - Middle Management/administration/professional
C1 - Supervisory/clerical/junior management
C2 - Skilled Manual
D - Semi and Unskilled manual
E - Subistence income/pensioners/windows/casual labour/unemployed.
PSYCHOGRAPHIC SEGMENTATION
Is also known as lifestyle profiling. It combines a psychological profile of the consumer, with ideas about how they conducted their life in the market place. VALS, the Values Attitudes and Lifetyle classification is probably the best known of the psychographic profiling systems.
After our first pitch to Luke, my group and myself were quite disappointed with the feedback as we love our idea and really want to try and make it work. So we have discussed long and hard how we could change the performance elements of the idea to make it more interesting for the audience.
Group Photo... Very stressful trying to improve our idea.
The first bit of feedback given was that the female was much more interesting. So to improve the idea we are going to concentrate more on her character and what will make her even more interesting to engage the audience.
No point doing slow motion because there needs to be a lot of movement. As a group we really like this idea and feel we could make it work so we are going to think of how we could develop the artists performance to make it more affective.
The guy seems slightly out of place although it is all about him, the stuff with the female is much more interesting. When my group and myself got our feedback we also agreed with this comment so we are still going to keep the artist in the video but show more shots of the female; we have also considered doing more shots with them together.
The dancer will need to be able to choreograph a dance. As I am a dancer myself, this is not a problem. I will choreograph a simple but affective dance for the actor to do.
Loved the water floor. We were happy with this feedback as we also really like this idea, as it is quite different. However we are trying to work out how we could do it in the short about of time we have to film.
The street is not going to look like the street we imagine. After a discussion with the group we are either going to change the idea of the street or go out one afternoon and try and find somewhere that fits with what we have in mind.
Good song choice. We were pleased with this comment.
We need a third element, it is too short needs something more. We are each going to think of some ideas on how to develop another element.
WHAT ARE EACH GOING TO DO TO MAKE IT BETTER?
Develop the performance element: Lucas
Consider what dance we are going to have, e.g style, choreography: Hannah (Me)
A third element and how we can incorporate it into the video: Gustavo The set/location/lighting: Kai
The music video will consist of the artist floating through the streets in order to get to a girl who is waiting in a room for him. Instead of normal pedestrian walking, making the artist 'float' will give the music video a 'trippy' effect; engaging the audience. As we see the artists journey to meet the girl, she will be provocatively dancing around the room she is waiting in.
Below is the kind of red lighting my group and myself would like the dancer to be dancing in.
This is what I imagine the shots of the girl waiting in the bed for the artist to come in to look like.
IDEA 2
Song: Pure Luxury
Artist: Tyga
Narrative:
For this idea my group and myself would like to go with the conventional stereotypes of a rap video. For example; involving a rapper and his gang trashing up a street, fire, an abandoned car park and a mosh pit.
However for this to work it needs to be done properly and casting is key, which unfortunately we do not have at our college as most of the boys look very young/innocent; definitely not intimidating.
So I suggested that instead of using a group we just focused on the artist alone and near the end of the video when there is a mosh pit we use the other characters as we will not be able to see their faces clearly.
The theme of this narrative will be 'intimidation' which is why we feel the artist should be dressed in black. Throughout the video, the audience will see that the artist is not afraid to be on his own as he hangs around in rough areas late at night.
What I imagine the car park to look like that the Artist will perform in.
As a way to communicate with my group I have set up a 'group chat' on wattsapp, so we are able to contact each other and discuss/share ideas, questions, pictures, videos and inspirations. This chat is only viewed by our group but is a way for us to contact each other out of class/college time.
Today we were allocated into our production groups which were based on our music tastes and aesthetic style. My group consists of Lucas, Kai, Gustavo and Myself.
Today in the lesson we only had about 15 minutes un till the end of the lesson, so to make best use of this short time we briefly went through our ideas to each other once again to refresh our memories and felt as a group that we most liked Lucus' and Kai's ideas.
As we didn't have much time we left it there but all decided to have a think over night so we could discuss more in the morning and develop the ideas.
Conventions and Concepts: Quick and slow
cuts match the pace of the song. The Narrative is based around a love scene
which creates controversy as the young female is dancing provocatively around
Justin; which will increase the views of the music video as females will want
to have the same kind of romance. The music video is very different to Justin's
previous videos as it is a more grown up story line because his target audience
are growing up and he is still trying to entertain them. In the video the
audience see many close ups of Justin In order to see his 'good looks' again
attracting the female audience.
Song: Wassup - A$AP Rocky
Genre: Rap
Conventions and Concepts: Close ups and wide shots of expensive accessories and wealthy backgrounds; for example nice cars, houses and watches. By having these close ups it makes the audience look up to these characters and want to have there lifestyle. In this video women are seen as objects, material items are being shown as 'more important'
Song:Don't You Find - Jamie T
Genre: Indie Rock
Conventions and Concepts: The location/setting for this music video is very simplistic which makes the audience focus on the artist himself playing the guitar. In the video we see shots of a girl dancing in very relaxed clothing in which looks to be a living room. As there is not much going on in this video it allows the audience to listen clearly to the music.
After presenting my three music ideas to the class, each member gave me positive feedback on ways I could improve my ideas to make them the best they could possibly be.
Idea 1
My first idea was to the song 'Wonderland' by Alice Chater. As Alice is a new upcoming pop artist she is not well known, however I know her from when we went to the same school. My class mates really liked this song choice, as it is not well known so they felt we could do anything with it. My class mates liked how I had closely looked at the lyrics of the song and tried to link this to my musc video idea. However they felt in order for the video to more interesting it needed another element to it. Lastly my classmates really liked how I had already thought about digi packs and loved the way I had created an album cover and website for the artist I felt would fit the part.
Idea 2:
My second idea was to the song 'As I Grow Younger' by the artist Black Water's; another not well known upcoming band. As I went to school with one of the boys in this band he said I could use one of their songs which again my classmates liked the idea of because it meant the audience would not associate anything with the band as they are not well known. My class mates particularly liked how this idea was very simplistic, and liked the idea of using a hand held camera for some of the shots to give the audience the feel of being in the atmosphere with the artists.
Idea 3:
For this idea I used the song 'Butterflyz' by Alecia Keys. My idea for this video was again very simplistic which my classmates liked as they said it was very affective. They liked how all the settings/locations I had In mind were very natural and liked the 'pure' theme I was going for. However my class mates did point out that they thought it would be very difficult to get butterflies to fly around the artist; which was very important point.
Overall my classmates liked all of my ideas, however their favourite was my second idea as they felt it could be developed even more and could attract a wider audience than the others.
The artist I believe this music video would suit is someone very similar to the artists Rihanna and Miley Cyrus, as I feel these artists are sexy but also have a look of innocence to them which I want this artist to look like. For example; I visualize the artist to be able to dance and to be very attractive which will attract both the female and male audience. I would like my artist to be called; Connie Adams.
The idea I have for this music video is a ‘mad hatters’ tea party set in a dark forest. I imagine a long table to be situated in the middle of the woods set with cutlery, teapots, cups, saucers, cakes, and sandwiches, dressed with red and gold table cloths. As the name of the track is ‘Wonderland’ which gave me the initial idea of a ‘mad hatters’ tea party I would like to make the tea party as much like Alice and Wonderland as possible. For example using the characters such as Alice, The Mad Hatter, Cheshire The Cat, The White Rabbit, and The Queen Of Hearts etc. However instead of keeping to the original narrative where these characters are all very sweet and innocent I want to make them all unmanageable for the character of Alice to cope with. Which is why she would use the props such as chains and cages to keep them controlled. The costumes the characters will be wearing will be very similar to the original costumes of Alice and Wonderland; however they will be made to be very sexy and not so innocent. I want to make this scene in the forest almost like a 'fantasy'. I want the characters dancing on the table, swinging from trees, throwing the tea cups and cake everywhere and being very mischievous because at the very end of the video we see a girl wake up who is the character of Alice, however she is in her pyjamas; which shows everything we had seen in the forest was just her dream.
In the track the lyrics continuously state ‘my wonderland’ which is why I want majority of the focus to be on the character of Alice in the video with the use of close ups and and mid shots on her.
(Confirmation that I would be allowed to use the artists song)
(An image of a forest which would be something similar to what I would like to use)
( This is a picture I found on google images which helped me create an idea in my head of what I would like the character playing Alice to wear)
Below I have created an album cover which I feel would be appropriate for this artist and the track. I have chose white writing, as it stands out against the dark colours and I have put the artists name in capital letters, so it will attract the audiences attention. As the music video would be set in a forest I felt it would be relevant to have this on the album cover, as well as bright colours to match the 'wonderland' theme and the characters costumes.

(The Back)
As well as making an album cover I have also made a home page that I feel would suit this artist using the website 'WIX'. I kept to theme of bright colours and big white writing when advertising the artists name; however I added a release date and tour dates so fans of the artist will be able to keep up to date of when the track is coming out.
Artist: BlackWaters Track: ‘As I grow Younger’ Concept:
The Artist BlackWaters are a new band made of four boys, who are very similar to the artist Arctic Monkeys. These two artists are similar as they both share the same genre indie/rock. For this music video I would like to call the artist 'ABM' I would like this music video to be focused on four boys, aged around 18-20. I want these characters to be dressed in jeans, basic plain tops and trainers. (Something very simple) I want these characters to have a ‘not bothered look’ but still be good looking enough to attract the female audience. Throughout the video I want to show clips of these four boys lives through different scenes. For example, scenes of them having lunch, messing around, playing games, going out, texting girls, writing songs and in the recording studio. I want parts of the music video to be filmed with a hand held camera to make the audience feel like they are watching a video off a phone, which they would not normally be able to see as the video will be portrayed as 'backstage' scenes. There is no narrative to this video I just want it to be plain and simple, giving the audience a chance to see what the band members get up too when there not performing giving them a relationship/connection. I feel the video fits in with the original track as it was four young boys who created it, the lyrics in the track also state ‘you made me realize who I am’ which I personally feel spending time with your friends helps you do. Stylistic Elements; parts of slow motion and black and white.
( Confirmation that I am allowed to use the Artists song )
Below is an album cover I have created. For this album cover I have gone for something very simple as I feel this suits the artist, there genre and there track. By not giving anything away from the album cover I feel will make the audience more excited to listen to the track as they will be intrigued as to what it will be about. (The Front)
(The Back)
I have made a homepage for this artist; however instead of using the same background that I did for the album cover that doesn't give any thing away, I went for something that gives the audience a hint/clue as to what kind of music it is going to be. I also gave the audience an opportunity to pre order the track, and subscribe for updates which creates a bigger fan base between the audience and the artist.
Artist: Alecia Keys Album: Songs In A Minor Track: ‘Butterflyz’ Concept:
An artist similar to Alecia Keys is Kelly Rowland as they both produce RnB/Pop. I would like the character for my music video to be very naturally beautiful, with subtle makeup and have long curly hair, aged at around 22. I would like the music video to consist of one girl character and I would like to have a few settings as she sings the song. For example; a pure white setting, which would mean the girl sat at a white piano in a white room with butterflies flying all around her, another setting would be her walking and playing through fields all alone, another would be her sat by a waterfall dipping her legs into the water and another would be her laid across white sheets where we would see close ups of her looking into the camera. I would like this music video to be as simple as possible just focusing on the girl only. I don’t want to follow any kind of narrative I just want the audience to see the character of the girl in very natural shots. Stylistic elements: Slow Motion The video fits with the track as the track talks about ‘butterflies’ which the audience will see flying around the girl as she plays the piano and plays in the fields. As the track is very pure I want my character and the video to fit this simple atmosphere.
This would be the type of album cover I would like for Idea 3; Something very plain and simple.
(The Front)
(The Back)
Below is a home page I have created which I feel would suit this artist as it is very simple just like the track. On this home page I have included a 'contact' section where the audience will be able to ask questions such as release dates, tour dates etc; I haven't put any information on the home page itself as I want the home page to be quite exclusive so the audience have a relationship with the artist. For this home page I have chosen an image of a girl that I have found on the internet similar to a girl that I would like to use for my music video.
